Guitar Wiring Mods

Whether you are looking to tweak your guitars tone, expand the capabilities of its electronics, or have custom onboard effects installed to allow you to control your sound on-the-fly, we’re here to help you make it a reality.

Functional Upgrades

Improving Existing Controls

Treble Bleed

If rolling down the volume knob on your guitar cuts too many highs from your signal, try the treble bleed mod to let some of those upper frequencies pass back through to your guitars output. This allows you to ride your volume control endlessly without having to worry about losing any chime on lower settings.

Coil Split/Tap

First, allow us to clarify the difference. Coil splitting is only possible with humbuckers, and it refers to deactivating one of the coils from the humbucker so it can function as a single coil. Coil tapping on the other hand refers to taking the output from halfway through a coil to reduce the amplitude of the output signal. You can tap into a single coil, however it isn’t recommended unless it is a very hot pickup. To accomplish this mod, we can either swap your guitars volume or tone control for a push/pull pot, or add a standalone toggle switch if you would prefer (but that would require drilling an additional hole for mounting).

Quality Enhancer

If you turn a knob on your guitar and it feels like its power steering has cut out, it might be time to replace it with a fresh pot for a smoother rotation. If you’re having issues getting a crystal clear signal from your instrument, we can also install copper shielding in your guitar’s electronics cavity to prevent noise from entering the signal chain.

Voicing Additions

Expanding Creative Capabilities

Kill Switch

Install a momentary kill switch into your guitar to open up a world of rhythmic possibilities. This mod requires drilling a mounting hole to install the switch. Guitars with an S-type body and a pickguard control panel are best suited to this mod, but if you are comfortable with having a hole drilled into the body we will comply. If you want a little kill switch inspiration, check out Tom Morello.

On-Board Effects

If you hate having to bend over to tweak the knobs on your effects pedals all the time and you would like the freedom of playing standing up while adjusting your effects on the fly with ease, you’ve come to the right place. We can install simple/small circuits inside your guitar and mount their controls in a place that makes it easy to play freely and adjust the knobs easily whenever you need to. A fantastic example of how onboard effects can be used is Matt Bellamy of Muse. He has a Fuzz Factory built into his guitar for quick, on-the-fly adjustment of those crazy screaming sounds. His guitar only has 2 of the 5 controls on it, we would be willing to squeeze all 5 of them in! Beware, having an onboard effect installed is an extremely invasive procedure including some hollowing out of the body.

Re-Modeling

Upgrading Sonic Signatures

Vintage Rewiring

Over the years, countless methods of wiring up guitars have been developed. Many musicians attribute the golden tones that they can coax from their vintage guitars to the classic wiring methods that were used back in the day. A large portion of these people are adamant that vintage wiring methods sound better than the modern day techniques. Who are we to argue? Bring us your modern guitar and we can rewire it to match the diagrams from the 50’s/60’s!

Audio Overhaul

Replace your guitars current electronics with brand new, high quality components and hardware. We can wire the new circuitry back up however you like as well, which makes this mod fantastic for upgrading the audio quality and creative capabilities of lower end guitars to the point that they can rival competing, premium brands.
